ABOUT THE TRAIL

The South Carolina Cotton Trail, stretching from I-95 to I-20, traces the influence of cotton on the lives and towns of the rural south.

Comprised of the towns of Bennettsville, Bishopville, Chesterfield, Cheraw, Clio, Darlington, Hartsville and Society Hill, the South Carolina Cotton Trail visits museums, gardens, market towns, cotton fields and homesteads.

COTTON TRAIL IN SEASON
Cotton bolls in full bloom.
In the fall, the fields are white with open cotton bolls, the cotton pickers are feeding the module builders and the gins are going full steam. Fall is the best time for seeing cotton harvestedPickers feeding a module builder. and gins in operation. The weather is great, with clear blue skies, warm days and cool nights. It is also traditional time for outdoor BBQ's. Many towns have seasonal events.

Chameleon Art Gallery

Located in historic Darlington, the gallery is nestled in a charming restored mercantile that dates to 1895. During its day, it distributed tobacco, cotton, horses and general mercantile supplies. The hardwood floors and high ceiling create a rustic environment to house some of the finest artwork in the Southeast. Hours are Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 1 to 4 p.m.
